Faculty Service and Leadership Awards

The Faculty Service and Leadership awards were established in 2018 by the Provost's office, in collaboration with Faculty Senate leadership, to recognize faculty excellence in various service, research, and leadership areas. The selection committee is chaired by the Faculty Senate Deputy Speaker and consists of four other faculty members, along with the Vice President for Public Affairs and the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. The call for nominations is typically sent out in January and award winners are announced at the Spring Teaching Awards ceremony.

Marjorie Corcoran Award

This award is given annually to a Rice faculty member who has made major contributions to the advancement of women or underrepresented minorities in STEM fields, either in support of students at Rice or through local, state, or national programs, with a particular commitment to engaged mentoring. Winners receive $3,000 and a certificate signed by the provost and president.

Excellence in Professional Service and Leadership Award

This award is bestowed annually on a faculty member who has made significant contributions to the academic profession or to the wider community (local, national or international) through professional service and leadership. Winners receive $3,000 and a certificate signed by the provost and president.

Excellence in Research, Teaching, and Service Award

This award is bestowed periodically on a faculty member who fulfills the Rice academic ideal by exhibiting exemplary achievement in all aspects of faculty responsibilities: research, teaching, and service. Winners receive $6,000 and a certificate signed by the provost and president.
